The Cincinatti Reds have managed to remove themselves from contention even in the "everyone has a shot" National League Central division. That gloomy fact does have at least a hint of a silver lining in that, the Reds are the only team in the NL Central that knows for sure whether they will be sellers or buyers at the trade deadline. The Reds of course will be the former and first up on the trading block appears to be Adam Dunn.
The 6’6" beast of a man is no stranger to trade rumors. Dunn’s averaged 42 home runs over the past three years and has 15 long balls so far this season and has attracted the attention of just about every team in need of a bat. The Newark Star-Ledger reported today that the Reds had a scout at the Yankees game yesterday, suggesting there is some trade activity brewing between the two teams.
However, as the Dayton Daily News points out, the teams that have scouted the Reds (presumably looking at Dunn among others) include, "Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles, Chicago (White Sox), Detroit and others." With that many clubs interested, I would expect the Reds to wait it out a bit longer to get maximum value in return for their slugger. However, they might not want to wait too long as more players will become available as more and more teams drop out of contention and into the sellers club.
